Learning is a lifelong pursuit. You're never too old or too young to learn something new. That's especially true of the Bible. There's so much contained in this one book, so it's not surprising that the Bible is the most widely read text of all time. It's densely packed with fascinating stories and valuable wisdom, and every time you pick it up to read it again, you notice something new that you didn't catch the first time.

There’s also a lot to learn about the bible – how it was written, what people thought in ancient times, what certain words mean in the original Greek or Hebrew. Many people have devoted their lives to learning these things, but the rest of us don't have to drop everything and become biblical scholars. This site offers an introduction to some of the basics, and it also points you toward other books and websites that can teach you more.

In the following pages, you'll learn about the fundamentals of the Old and New Testaments, how Catholic bibles have a few "extra" books that Protestant bibles lack, and how Catholics approach the biblical text in a unique way. There's also a Resources page full of maps and timelines for those interested in learning more about biblical geography and chronology. Each page provides an overview that highlights the most important points, and at the bottom of each page is a list of additional resources for those who'd like to learn more.
